Bilge Rats

Avast Ye! This here be an official Captain's Call written by yours truly.

Nearly four years ago was my first attempt to create a truly epic clan. It would consist of hardworking, honest, mature, friendly, and loyal individuals. This clan would be highly respected by the community, and would rule the seven seas through intimidation. We would be a motley crew of pirates with one common goal in mind. That goal would be to pillage and plunder like never before! We would take every village and every port the high seas had to offer. Not a single soul would be spared. There would be no mercy.

On one bone chilling night, we were attacked by a band of Cut Throats. Our ship took on heavy damage, and our lines and sails became three sheets to the wind. Come nightfall, our ship began to list. The vast majority of our crew lay still on the blood ridden deck. Other crewmen used our lifeboats to escape. However, the true Bilge Rats stayed with our ship. We salvaged what we could, and did our best to keep the ship afloat. It may be a few days, nights, or the next blue moon. There was no uncertainty about it though. Our good ship would soon sink.

The next morning came, and we mustered together what little supplies we had left. The Cut Throats organized a surprise attack and quickly crossed the t. They fiercely fired their broadside cannons toward our hull. Our ship had taken an incredible amount of damage. It would be a matter of minutes before she would be at the depths. We had no choice but to abandon ship. We quickly made our way into the remaining lifeboats, and some how made our way to shore. Throughout the remaining months we were marooned. However, our highly motivated and skilled crew managed to construct a seafaring vessel. It was by far the best ship of its time. We roared out of the harbor with our colors hoisted to the very top of our mainmast. The Cut Throats had the devil to pay!

Come one dark blue mooned night, we found the impetuous Cut Throats moored at Cursed Isles. They were looking for the lost booty of the legendary pirate, One-Eyed Willie. We slowly crept up on the unsuspecting bunch. With our swords drawn at the ready, we swung like Davy Jones himself had ordered their beheading. Bloody Bayou itself had not seen this much bloodshed! Through pure luck, some of the most cunning Cut Throats escaped. However, the most notorious Cut Throat of them all, "Casey the Saulty" was brutally murdered. He was the one that organized the failed extermination of the Bilge Rats crew. His beheaded skull is now nailed to our weathered Captain's Cabin bulkhead. To this very day, Casey's rotting skull serves as a constant reminder of what we went through as a crew.

Although the vast majority of us have moved away from the pirates mods, I will always remain a loyal BFP1 fan. The mod had something that I absolutely loved. Those that spend countless hours playing it with me know exactly what I am talking about. If you guys recall, we nearly beat CT playing a man down. We can only speculate what could have happened if SniperJack wasn't AFK...

I still remember when ReeferMadness tried to join DE under the name aqanox. A DE member posted, "Why is your IP address the same as ReeferMadness'" ReeferMadness writes, "That is because he is my room mate." DE didn't accept that answer though. ReeferMadness never did get into DE. I remember when Koppa was accused of being V and hacking the DE site. So he quit DE and later joined BR. I believe some of their reasoning was based on his excellent computer skills. Just goes to show you how ignorant some DE members were. Most importantly, I will never forgot when ChipsAhoy started the mutiny that ruined my first attempt to create a clan. Then being the mutineer she was, she started her own clan. A true pirate bitch.

This isn't just a clan or a gaming community. BR is an elite brotherhood made up of the best of the best. Our colors fly high, for we are a feared bunch! So raise your tankard with me. If Taur_ruaT was still around, he would say, "Drink to the Grog!"

I've learned a lot since I joined BR, and developed long-lasting friendships. I thank everyone in this clan for being hardworking, honest, mature, friendly, and loyal individuals.

Although we might not be on the forums, our clan is still active.
61.5% of our members have been on Xfire in the last month (vs. CT's 35.7%), and out of the 38.5% who haven't, we still keep in touch frequently with most (msn, email, etc)

A really good read there Troy, i can see you put a lot of effort into that and the clan. But you are right about thing BR is no ordinary clan or gaming community, it's like a level above in my books. I think it would be great if we could all get together and get online for the community match Troy was telling me about.
